Things have gone a long way since Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone in 2007. Today, smartphones and tablets are everywhere and we can all thank the UI developers for making our interaction with our devices that much easier and faster.
But, what exactly is UI? UI stands for User Interface and when we say the term, we usually refer to mobile UI. This refers to the icons and widgets we see on our mobile devices. To be more specific, let’s take this definition of UI:
“A mobile user interface (mobile UI) is the graphical and usually touch-sensitive display on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet that allows the user to interact with the device’s apps, features, content and functions.”
UI Design For The Masses
The user should be the first and foremost consideration in mind by the interface designer/developer. UI designers and developers must create an environment that is both aesthetically beautiful and functional from the users’ perspective.
No one wants to spend half a day learning how to do something on their gadget because of poor UI. Everyone is always on the go and in our fast-paced world, our devices must keep up with our fast-moving lifestyle.
With this is mind, a device’s user interface must work with how the user uses his/her gadget in such a way that the tasks performed becomes easy as turning on a light switch.
The designers/developers (both for iOS and Android) have done a great job in creating a UI for both platform that is both responsive and intuitive for all users. Now, it doesn’t take a steep learning curve to start and finish any task on our smartphones and tablets because of how natural the user interface is.
Comparison between Android and iOS will always come up and debates will arise on which one OS/UI is the best but to the user, it really doesn’t matter, as long as they are able to effectively interact with their devices and complete their task with ease.
Tasks Made Easier
That being said, today’s modern UI on our gadgets has made typing and sending messages quicker, creating a To-Do list easier, taking creative pictures better and making our all our work that much lighter.
I think you will agree with me that the future of the user interface is extremely bright and will be more intuitive and user-friendly as ever.
What will they think of next? 3D UI anyone?
