Ever since I was a kid, everyone told me that to be successful and rich in life, I need to get a good job as a doctor or an engineer. Nothing else could make me as rich as those two professions. This seems to be a mentality quite prevalent in Eastern hemisphere cultures.
Now there is nothing wrong with becoming a doctor or engineer and hey, if it is something you aspire to be, then go ahead! But what if you wanted to take up that odd ball job? Does it pay well? Will you be able to support yourself if you ever got into it as a profession?
Well, we wanted to answer that question, and after months of hard research; here is our list of 4 high paid jobs that may make your parents cringe…
1. Beauty Adviser
You know, there comes a day when you really need someone to truthfully tell you if you are ugly or not and then advise you on the necessary steps to take in case you actually are (no, wearing a paper bag over your head is not considered a solution).
That’s what a beauty adviser is there for. These are the people who assist people with finding beauty products that meet their needs by giving makeovers or product demonstrations. That’s right, they get paid quite well just by selling and applying make up.
Based on our findings, a beauty adviser with no college degree in Malaysia makes an average of RM76,000 annually. At least they are earning money to make you look better right? Maybe then you can actually get a job as a part-time model…
2. Part time model
Which is amazingly a popular job choice for a lot of young Malaysians. Just this year alone, there were more than 8000 users signed up to our system who had a part-time modelling career listed in their resume.
And why not become a model when you can get an average pay of RM200-RM500 daily?
Do the math: Say you do 10 gigs a month that pays Rm350 per gig. That is a cool RM3500 a month just by looking good. That’s more than what some fresh graduates make…
I think the fact that the skills required are only to look good, dress well, handle pressure on camera and on the runway, is the reason why it is so popular among the young population.
3. Poultry consultant
We are not making this job title up… There are people out there whose sole purpose is to ensure that chickens are raised properly. Tasked with an endless knowledge of poultry biology and psychology (yes, chickens think too y’know), they consult poultry farms on their quality control, hygiene, machinery, and anything else regarding those tasty flightless birds.
I mean, this is quite an important job since chickens take up 68% of our dietary needs for meat. So it isn’t surprising to see a poultry consultant with 1 year of experience making an annual income of RM52,000.
But imagine telling your parents that you have decided to uphold the safety and quality of chicken rearing. Yeah, they most likely will tell you to go run a chicken rice shop instead (at least they can say you are a businessman)…
4. Chicken Rice stall owner
Which brings me to my next job position. Although it really isn’t a job position but more of an entrepreneurship, running a chicken rice shop stall can net you bags of money.
Granted you would need quite a number of hungry people visiting your stall everyday to make a massive profit, it isn’t that hard to make a decent living. And after the hurdle of setting up your stall, everything afterwards is just helping you profit.
Daily earnings (pure profit in your pocket) can amount to anywhere from RM150-RM400 depending on the popularity of your stall.
So there you have it, 4 of the most unexpectedly high paying jobs in Malaysia. Hopefully some of you aspire to go into one of these prestigious fields. Why don’t you let us know on Facebook or Twitter what are some odd jobs that you know pay really well?
