How much more money, contribution and impact could you make if you could learn more rapidly a skill that you are working on?
As we discussed in the previous article, accelerated learning is one of the most important skills one can have in the constantly-changing modern world we live in.
You also learned of 5 powerful strategies to improve your learning curve and reap more benefits with less effort. Now you are going to learn about 5 more proven strategies which have been giving tremendous results to the people who use them properly.
Are you ready to discover these strategies? Here they are…
Rapid Learning Strategy #6 – Practice Self-Awareness More
Most people lack awareness in their day-to-day actions, as well as their learning. That’s a pity because they are robbing themselves of the most valuable asset they have – attention.
When you are self-aware when you learn something, you discover a wealth of valuable feedback and insight which can help you make rapid progress. Otherwise, taking the more “mechanical” route, it takes more time and effort to reach the same results.
Be aware when you are learning and pay attention both to yourself (your thoughts, feelings and ideas that come up during learning) as well as to the technical details of the skill you are practicing.
Rapid Learning Strategy #7 – Read A Book
Books are fantastic resources which can speed up your learning progress. However, there’s a caveat here – due to the enormous number of books published in the last decades, it’s a real challenge to find valuable, wisdom-rich books.
It’s not enough to read – you have to know which books to read, and stick to applying the information in those books. Otherwise, you might end up spending your whole life reading books which outline the same generic ideas again and again – or you might end up reading and not applying anything in your life (which, obviously, defeats the purpose).
If you want to discover books which are so valuable that they are worth their weight in gold, research which books had the biggest impact on the highest-performance people and mentors in your field. That way, you can have intimate access to their thoughts, to their vision and their thinking process – shortcutting your progress by months, if not years.
Pick your books wisely then focus on understanding and implementing them in your practice.
Rapid Learning Strategy #8 – Enroll In A Course
With the explosion of the online world in recent years, online education has become a very popular trend. Indeed, you can learn a lot by going through an online course taught by a professional.
However, the same principle from the previous strategy applies here as well. Even if a course “sounds exciting”, that doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for you. On the other hand, you shouldn’t spend all your time “hunting” for “the best course in the world”. There’s a fine line here which only you can discover on your own terms.
What I would like to suggest is to enroll in a course which has a high number of positive reviews and is taught by a person you respect, who inspires you. Also, you should commit to finish the course and apply it as soon as possible into your practice.
Rapid Learning Strategy #9 – Practice In An Intelligent Way
Malcom Gladwell wrote a fantastic book called “Outliers”. In this book, he uncovers the research behind some of the most successful people in their profession – “geniuses”, as they say.
What he discovered is that beyond the potential genetic and environmental favorable conditions which support their development, these prodigies had a unique way of practicing their skill. More specifically, they had a daily routine which he calls “deliberate practice”, meaning that they allocated certain timeblocks during the day in which they practiced with focus, intent and passion.
Although numbers are important (when it comes to the hours put in the work), it is equally important to make those hours count as much as possible. That is why you need to practice your skill with intent and with clear guidelines on what you want to accomplish in a certain session.
Keeping a progress diary is important as well (as I mentioned in the previous article) and making your learning process a priority in your life is a must. Dedicate at least one two-hour block per day to improving your skill and you will see tremendous breakthroughs.
Rapid Learning Strategy #10 – Commit For The Long Term
World-class results don’t come immediately. It takes time, consistency and patience for someone to develop mastery. Although you might have some “urgent” issues to solve (money, social status and so on), you have to cultivate long-term thinking – otherwise you are bound to succumb to the short-term pressures and feelings.
I would also caution you against immersing yourself in a field unless you want to activate in it for at least 5 years. Sure, go ahead and experiment – but once you pick a domain (or niche) you want to be very good at, stick with it at least for a couple of years. Otherwise, you are wasting your time and energy.
